Each day on Orchard Street, we welcome teachers, students and visitors into the homes of the immigrants, migrants, and refugees who called tenements home from the 1860s to 1980s. By drawing connections between families past and present, visitors are invited to engage in history in all its complexity and contemplate what it means to be an American.
