This Giving Project is a chance for everyday people to come together and fuel the work that we believe in and can't do alone. I'm really proud and excited to be part of this group. I hope you are too and that you'll join me!

Detroiters are imagining and creating some of the most innovative solutions to our world’s most pressing social issues, often with extremely limited resources.

Every year, only 1.6% of funding from large foundations goes to grassroots organizations with budgets of $100k or less. Less than 2% of funding supports community organizing and only 7% goes to communities of color.

Our Giving Project flips the model for traditional philanthropy on its head. All of the money we raise will go directly into the hands of grassroots, Black & brown-led community organizations fighting for social justice in Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park.

There won't be any restrictions on how the funds are spent because we know those closest to the problem are closest to the solution, and general operating support allows them to be nimble and maximize their impact.

Our Giving Project is also challenging traditional ideas of what it looks like to be a "philanthropist." For folks who may feel like there's no point in giving because they can't make a large enough gift to make a difference: Each year, billions of dollars are dedicated to charities across the country and 2/3 come from individuals.

70% of immigrant families make charitable donations every year, along with 70% of people receiving public assistance. Most of the generosity that fuels our movements comes from our own neighborhoods. We only have each other to turn to!

Joining our Giving Project is about more than making a one-time gift. It's a chance to be part of a powerful group of people, coming together to address the root causes of oppression. Instead of being dependent on a few super-wealthy people, or waiting for big foundations to start supporting grassroots change efforts, we're doing it ourselves, and we're prioritizing the many gifts at all levels that will make the difference together.

In the past, the Transforming Power Fund has supported groups that are fighting gun violence in schools; providing vital services to Black immigrants; transforming pain into power by bringing healing justice to Detroit youth; and more.

Join our movement so we can move more money to the frontlines of social change, and do so in a way that is rooted in equity and social transformation!
