Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program's Sox for Socks Campaign
For people experiencing homelessness, the need for new socks is critical. Spending hours on their feet, with walking as their primary mode of transportation, and exposed to the extremes of weather, too often the people served by BHCHP face severe infections and avoidable health complications. Every day, BHCHP relies upon donations of new, white socks to distribute to patients at our more than 30 shelter-based clinics and through the outreach care of our Street Team, providing patients not only with a basic essential to protect their health, but the gift of comfort and dignity. As the lead sponsor of BHCHP's annual Sox for Socks campaign, the Boston Red Sox host us at Fenway Park for a weekend collection drive each year and encourage fans to bring new white cotton socks to support our patients. Through our Sox for Socks events at Fenway over the last 17 years, we have collected over 200,000 pairs of socks.
