Sponsor Tag #42 (Appy/ Paint Mare)

We picked up our sweet mare from the Sexton’s Lot 09/16/24

We went straight to UTK and boy is that place amazing! She was checked by the doctor and had a new Coggins pulled.

Details:

  1. She is a little more underweight than we expected and that’s ok. Starting a soft re-feed because the doctor seems to think she’s just been turned out in the pasture. We would rather be cautious than cause her problems.
The doctor puts her around 18-20 years old.
  2. Her front teeth do not line up and believes it to be a molar issue. So definitely need to have a full dental exam and power float (hopefully no extractions).
  3. She has a bit of uveitis that is being treated and might have a touch of moon blindness. I did not know that these can be common in Appaloosa breeds. We will follow up on a full diagnosis when she is seen for her dental.
  4. Her hooves are a hot mess express.  Doesn’t seem to have had proper hood care in a long while. Her angles are way off in her rear, toe is missing, plenty of cracks. She might have a touch of DSLD but the doctor was hopeful that once she has consistent farrier work that it will be ok.
  5. Sunburned.
  6. Tail is one solid cylindrical knot, so we are doing the best we can a little at a time to comb it out and preserve it.

On average, basic equine care, (hay, feed, farrier, and veterinary care) costs  $4,000 per year. This does not include unforeseen medical issues or “overhead” costs such as rent, utilities, supplies, and maintenance.

With all of that being said, we invite you to become a part of her incredible journey of healing and rehabilitation. Join us in making a difference in her new life by becoming a monthly sponsor.

If you are unable to commit to the full monthly sponsorship, we welcome you to designate an amount that suits your budget no amount is ever “too small”.  Also, we encourage group and corporate sponsorships!

Whether you’re a volunteer, donor, or sponsor, your involvement is crucial to our mission, and makes a lasting impact on the lives of the equines, farm animals, and humans we serve. Together, we can make a profound difference!
