Each year as the holidays approach, we’re reminded that love, unity, and generosity have the power to bring hope where it’s needed most.

The Tashane Way Foundation was created in memory of Christopher Tashane Byrd, who was tragically killed on June 4, 2013 in the South Bronx. He was just 26 years old. Christopher was larger than life. His smile, his laugh, his love for family, and his presence continue to live on through the work we do in his name.

We strive to inspire our community, especially our youth, to see beyond the four corners of their neighborhood and recognize the greater possibilities life has to offer.

One of the most meaningful ways we honor Christopher’s life is through our Annual Turkey Giveaway, a tradition that began the same year we lost him. What started with a single meal donated in his honor has grown into a community-wide effort. Since 2013, thanks to the support of generous donors and partners, we’ve proudly given away over 4,500 turkeys to families across the South Bronx.

This event is about so much more than food, it’s about hope, dignity, and unity. We know firsthand how hard it can be to sit down for a holiday meal when resources are tight. Our goal is to relieve that burden and give families a moment of peace and joy during Thanksgiving.

This year, we are asking for your support once again. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to fund turkeys, pantry staples, and supplies.
