Kate Irvin, Curator and Department Head of Costume and Textiles, will give a presentation on Anna and Laura Tirocchi, skilled seamstresses, who immigrated to the US from Italy in 1905 and established A. and L. Tirocchi Gowns in Providence, Rhode Island in 1911. Their's is not only a story of Italian immigration, but also a story of successful female entrepreneurs in the early 20th century. The presentation will include a special viewing of a number of gowns, not ordinarily on display in the museum, designed and fabricated by the Tirocchi sisters. An elegant reception with light fare and beverage will be held in the Radeke Garden, an outdoor garden situated in the center of the museum. The event will be limited to 50 people.
