Dear Friends, I joined the Board of the Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund (DPSF) in November 2024, driven by the conviction that student activists needed our material support more than ever. At the time, we were witnessing a wave of repression of dissent in university campuses across the country, in the lead up to an admin change that has proven to be as cruel, inhumane and lethal as it promised. Since then, I've had the chance to review the applications of 100+ students (and personally interview a handful) hoping to be funded by DPSF so that they can keep organizing while attending school. These conversations have deeply moved me and given me a more grounded sense of the urgency of this Fund. From organizing to end mass incarceration, to defending trans rights, to advocating for abortion access, to combatting the climate crisis, our grantees are on the frontlines, actively doing the work to dismantle the systems causing the horrors we read about every day.
