This month I should be really sad because I would be packing my oldest son, Ty, up for his first year of college. Although some people like the idea of being an empty-nester, I cringe at the thought of not being able to kiss my boys goodnight. Or tell them to be safe, be kind, be helpful, and be happy, also with a kiss every morning. Obviously now I will still have two more years before my first goes off to college. The even sadder part is that at this point, I can't even imagine what Ty would look like as a college student. But I can imagine what it feels like every day to know he never made it into kindergarten, let alone into college. This is a reality my wife and I deal with daily. As you all know, we have committed to this cause since Ty passed away. And now I will be swimming, biking, and running for Ty for the 13th time. I can assure you that I feel older each year, but I feel more committed than ever to making a difference. Running a nonprofit can be a struggle, especially after more than a decade. And for 13 years, I have been writing to my friends and family asking to help support this cause. And I have been lucky enough that my words, and Ty's story, still inspire you all.
