Help Us Bring a Clay-Based SEL Residency to Euclid Elementary

Help us raise the final $2,673 to launch a clay-based social-emotional learning (SEL) program for newcomer & refugee students.

💛 Thank You

Thank you for believing in Teralta Art and in the power of community creativity.

Because of your generosity in 2024, we were able to provide trauma-informed pottery training for all of our staff and regular volunteers in 2025—strengthening the care, safety, and connection we offer every student.

With your support, we hope to close the final funding gap to bring Our Shared Language, a clay-based art and SEL program, to Euclid Elementary School.

Your gift helps us expand healing, belonging, and creative expression where it’s needed most. Thank you for making this possible.

🌱 About This Campaign

Teralta Art is launching a new clay-based social-emotional learning (SEL) program at Euclid Elementary School in San Diego’s City Heights neighborhood. Thanks to a generous $10,000 Leighton Foundation's donation, we are close to fully funding the project. We are now raising the final $2,673 to bring this program into classrooms in 2026.

Your gift directly supports students in one of San Diego’s most diverse and underserved school communities—home to families from Somalia, Haiti, Mexico, and many newcomer and refugee backgrounds.

Together, we can create 10 cohorts of a six-session, school-based series for K–2 students that blends explicit SEL instruction with trauma-informed ceramics and claymation. This program integrates seamlessly with Euclid’s existing ELL (English Language Learner) pull-outs and behavioral intervention groups, creating a safe, expressive, and culturally responsive space where every child feels seen and supported.

🎒 Why Euclid Elementary?

Euclid Elementary serves 520 students (TK–5) in City Heights, a neighborhood rich in cultural diversity and resilience. Many children at Euclid face:

  • Interrupted or disrupted schooling

  • Acculturative and resettlement-related stress

  • English-language development challenges

  • Difficulty forming peer relationships during transition

These challenges directly impact learning, emotional regulation, and the ability to feel a sense of belonging at school.

🎨 Why Clay? Why This Program?

California’s Transformative SEL (T-SEL) framework calls for culturally responsive, whole-child development—especially in diverse multilingual classrooms.

Clay is the perfect tool:

  • Nonverbal & sensory-rich: supports expression when words are difficult

  • Regulating & grounding: calms the nervous system and builds emotional resilience

  • Culturally inclusive: students bring their own stories, symbols, and identity into the clay

  • Shared language: offers a visual, tactile way for multilingual groups to connect

Teralta Art has years of experience using clay to promote community healing, positive youth development, and identity expression. This program brings that same approach directly into the school environment.

💛 Budget Transparency

Total Program Cost: $12,673
