Mosaic Explore Model United Nations students are happy to partner with Fihri to launch a fundraiser to support women and youth through HAVEN, an organization that serves women, men, children, and all people of marginalized genders and identities affected by domestic and sexual violence. HAVEN is the largest violence prevention and support services agency in New Hampshire.

Period poverty, which refers to inequalities related to menstruation, is a global issue that affects women and girls who are low-income, homeless, imprisoned, or live in conflict zones. The US is not immune to it. In fact, recent data finds that one in five American girls miss school due to their periods. Girls should be able to walk into a school restroom and have access to available period products. However, only 16 states and Washington DC require schools to provide period products. To make matters worse, 35 states view period products as luxury goods and impose a sales tax, also known as the “tampon tax,” on them. Having access to period products is not a luxury. It is a need. It affects every woman and girl's sense of dignity as well as her ability to carry on with life.

For every $10 raised, we will provide someone in need with a sustainable period kit that includes a reusable pouch and a month’s supply of biodegradable pads, pantyliners, and 100% organic cotton tampons.

Mosaic Explore Model United Nations is an extra-curricular class and activity through which students deepen their knowledge of global issues and international relations and improve their skills in research, public speaking, diplomacy, negotiations, and decision-making by preparing for and participating in simulations of the General Assembly, Security Council, Specialized Committees or other non-UN bodies, such as national cabinets or crisis committees
