Logline: When Juan, a self-taught tech worker finally close to a full-time offer, gets the call that his older brother Junior is getting out of prison after fifteen years, he drives 400 miles up the coast to bring him home. One brother is trying to get out. The other is still trying to get in.

THERE'S NO PLACE is a road trip dramedy about two Mexican-American brothers and the state that raised them. Junior has done his time. Juan has spent those same years chasing a foothold in a Silicon Valley economy that keeps moving the door. The drive south is supposed to be simple. It isn't. What do you owe a place you call home when it acts like you're not from there?

The film is the debut feature of writer-director Jesus Beltran. He's spent twenty-plus years in the Bay Area, first earning a mechanical engineering degree at Stanford, then working in tech while making films. He approaches both the same way: figure out how a thing works, then build it. His four short films include The Grass Grows Green, which played Sundance and SXSW, and MOTOS, which had a national festival run and coverage in MovieMaker. THERE'S NO PLACE was one of five finalists out of more than a thousand submissions for 2026 AT&T/Tribeca Untold Stories, and a Sundance Producers Lab finalist.

Bobby Soto, Clayton Cardenas, and Elpidia Carrillo are attached to star. The California Film Commission has awarded the production a state tax credit. With that credit, private equity, and donor contributions, over 60% of the $1.27M budget is committed. We're raising the balance through grants and independent investors — $100K of it here.

Principal photography starts this fall: twenty-two days across Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino, San Francisco, and Santa Clara counties, shot in the real places the story is about. What you give pays local crew, cast, and businesses in those counties. Help us get the cameras rolling !
