We're climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro for Sickle Cell Disease!
Yes, you read that correctly.
Sickle cell disease is a group of blood disorders where red blood cells turn into a "sickle" shape. These diseases disproportionately affect Black communities and are rampant in sub-Saharan Africa, often going under-recognized and under-resourced.
We're fundraising for Sickle Forward
Sickle Forward is a non-profit organization that provides sickle cell screening tools to sub-Saharan countries. The mission of Sickle Forward is "to alleviate the burden of SCD through advocacy, education, and collaborative initiatives, ensuring that every person, regardless of their socio-economic background, receives the essential care they need."
We're building community.
My aspiration to illuminate conditions that predominantly afflict underserved communities is a driving force behind my decision to participate in the Mt. Kilimanjaro Timmerman Traverse for Sickle Forward. This endeavor harmonizes my enthusiasm for nature and building community with a mission to spotlight and confront the challenges of sickle cell anemia.
