Peterson Field Lighting Project: A Capital Campaign for the Future

As Scarborough Little League continues to grow, our field availability has not kept pace with the needs of our players. With nearly 60 teams and over 500 players in baseball and softball competing for limited space, practice and game schedules have become increasingly constrained. We have had to depend on renting fields and sending two Scarborough teams outside of town simply a game together to give every child time to practice and play.

For 2026, we are launching a major capital campaign to install lights at the Peterson baseball field and we need your help!

This project, in collaboration with the Town of Scarborough, means Scarborough Little League will be funding over $100,000 to allow games and practices to continue after sunset. This is a significant milestone that will dramatically expand our usable field time and eases the strain on every team across the league, both baseball and softball. Lighting Peterson Field is the single most impactful investment we can make to ensure Scarborough kids have the space they need for years to come.

Softball is fortunate to have use of the high school’s lighted fields because youth softball plays on the same size fields as high school. Baseball has had no equivalent option due to field size differences. Increasing capacity at Peterson will expand practice and game availability for all baseball and also for our softball teams, reducing scheduling bottlenecks that impact all our teams.

SLL is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit entity and your donation may be tax deductible in accordance with IRS regulation.

All donations, large and small, will help us achieve our goal!

For our Phase One of fundraising, our goal is 300 Scarborough families to donate $100 or more. We know this is a significant ask from our families and community and we truly appreciate your consideration and support in sharing this message with others who may be willing to support.

If we can exceed our goals, funds will go directly to supporting needed improvements at other Scarborough fields for softball and baseball.

About Scarborough Little League

Since 1955, Scarborough Little League has been a cornerstone of youth sports in our community in Scarborough.

SLL, together with our dedicated families and partnership with the Town of Scarborough, has given generations of children the chance to learn to love the game. Our players build confidence, become better athletes, and develop lifelong friendships on our ballfields in Scarborough. We are entirely volunteer-run and our league now serves more than 500 boys and girls each year across baseball and softball, from ages 4–14, and we will continue to grow. We are proud to carry forward a tradition rooted in teamwork, sportsmanship, and community connection.
