Hello Extended World Class Academy Family,

With great excitement, World Class Academy MTB would like to announce our Spring fundraising event!

We would like to introduce this fundraiser and open the conversation about why we're fundraising and its importance to our Academy. We believe that World Class Academy offers an incredibly unique experience to our high school students. Through attending World Class Academy, students have an opportunity to not only mountain bike around the world while completing their high school education, but an opportunity to learn about themselves, others, and the world around us through cultural and interpersonal experiences in the communities the academy visits. As an academy, we appreciate being able to offer this experience to as many students as we can. We want everyone interested to have the opportunity to attend.

How do we create these opportunities? How do we help everyone attend? We create these opportunities through scholarships. We love being able to support our students in this way. Therefore, we want to grow our scholarship funds to support more students, current and future.

That's the foundation we are standing on in reaching out to our community of parents, families, friends, alumni, and more to help us. Help us support current and future students through our fundraiser, creating scholarships so more students have the opportunity to attend WCA, a life-changing and rewarding high school experience.

So without further ado and with a drumroll, please....

On March 5th, the World Class Academy MTB team will be conducting their Shredding for Scholarships campaign. While in Queenstown, New Zealand, the team while spend the afternoon riding as many laps of the "Mcnearly Gnarly" trail as they can.

How is this a fundraiser you might ask?

We are encouraging alumni, parents, families, friends and community members to financially support this challenge in 1 of 3 ways.

Pledge an amount per lap a person completes. Ex. I pledge $10 for every lap completed by Scout Finch.
Pledge an amount per lap the whole team completes collectively. Ex. I pledge $1 for every Mcnearly Gnarly lap completed collectively by the team.
Donate a set amount to support the challenge. Ex. I pledge $25 in support of WCA MTB’s Shredding for Scholarships campaign

For context on Mcnearly Gnarly- the trail is about 1.6 miles (2.5 km) long on the way up and 1.3 miles (2 km) on the way down so about 3 miles (5 km) for an entire loop. The trail has 65 jumps and 54 berms winding through the forest. It is one of the Southern Hemisphere's best flow trails and is one of the team’s favorites. Students will be competing to see who can ride the most laps in the afternoon after school. . A $10 per lap pledge to an individual who completes 5 Mcnearly Gnarly laps would result in a $50 donation.

As a registered non-profit educational organization, all donations made to WCA are Tax deductible.

Students will use an individual pledge sheet to keep track of potential donations, and once the challenge is complete, we will follow up with distances covered and the resulting donation.

We are excited to share this fundraiser. It is a great opportunity for students and staff to challenge themselves, build teams, have fun, and raise funds for our scholarship program.
