Hi, y'all. I'm raising money to help offset some of the unexpected costs of my dog's emergency vet bills. I don't have any stories of him saving me or my sisters from a burning building, or tutoring kids in calculus for free. He's more likely to be asleep, begging to go on walks and then turning around when he sees its raining, or playing with his beanie baby lobster he's loved since he was a baby.

Pooka went to the emergency vet clinic on December 23 with a swollen abdomen, which usually comes with symptoms of lethargy, fatigue, unwillingness to eat, etc, but he was happy and playing and showed little signs of discomfort. Upon taking him to the clinic we eventually learned that he may either have heart failure or liver disease - the tests we were given were not in depth enough to give us any answers. Pooka is very lucky to have a family that loves him, but as we look for answers we slowly reach a point in our wallets (with a 13 month old baby, two graduate students, and an early career IT tech) where it becomes scarier and scarier to wait and see what else we may have to pay for.

The amount I'm fundraising is the low end estimate of what we will need. To date we've spent nearly $2,000 on diagnostics with no answers, and will need to spend more for lab tests and emergency visits. Any little bit helps, and you'll be helping an Afro-Indigenous family save the dog they love.
