Who are we?
Started in 2014, Black N Bluegrass Junior Roller Derby (BBJRD) is an open gender league affiliated with the Junior Roller Derby Association (JRDA). We are dedicated to bringing the sport of junior roller derby to Northern Kentucky. Our goal is to provide a fun, safe, and supportive environment for athletes, ages 7-17, where they can come together and play this sport of speed, strategy, and teamwork. Junior roller derby helps empower skaters with self-confidence, leadership skills, and develop athletic abilities. We provide a place where skaters can learn to play roller derby in a framework built around trust, friendship, athletic competition, and a sense of community.

What is it?
The Skate-a-thon is a fun, action-packed event where young skaters will challenge themselves to complete as many laps as possible to raise money for their future in roller derby! From beginners to seasoned skaters, it's a day of fun, fitness, and fierce spirit, all in raising funds for BBJRD.

As a non-profit league and pay to play sport, we rely on fundraisers to help provide:

Funds for a practice space and game venue
Financial aid to help keep derby affordable and accessible for the young athletes in our community
Necessary equipment and supplies to hold roller derby practices and games
Travel expenses for our national away games and tournaments
Other expenses needed to run a roller derby league

Skate-A-Thon 2025

Our junior roller derby players will race to complete as many laps as possible to raise funds for their league! Support these rising athletes by donating or pledging per lap to help them reach their goals and grow the sport!
