Cancer increases the risk of infertility. This risk is magnified in the BIPOC cancer community where the conversation on fertility preservation is often not shared.

There have been studies that provide evidence that cryopreserving oocytes, sperm or embryos after cancer diagnosis for future family building is associated with increased financial vulnerability.

We don’t accept this.

ABOUT US

The mission of United Colors of Cancer is to increase the number of BIPOC cancer survivors, and to find a cure. We are not disease-specific. Our aim is to corral the entire cancer space in pursuit of better health outcomes, and to provide a central platform for all cancer organizations, around the world, to convene, connect, and collaborate.

"We started this organization because no one else was focusing on the Black and Brown cancer community globally. There are certainly disease specific organizations for things like Black breast cancer or Latina Cancer or Black colon cancer, but no one was looking at the Black and Brown cancer community as a whole, irrespective of disease specificity. And so, we are the first U.S nonprofit for the global BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) cancer community, bringing all the disease specific groups together for one common goal: better cancer outcomes for all."

UCC addresses the unmet social and cultural needs of the BIPOC cancer community by providing information, resources, and peer to peer support through a culturally competent, multilingual platform that features the latest medical news and research, moderated support forums, and a vetted marketplace for wellness products and services aimed at improving the health outcomes of the BIPOC cancer community.

OUR VISION

To reach our goals of increasing the number of BIPOC cancer survivors, and eradicating cancer altogether, we need to #colorthedata and #colorthecare. We will work to increase the number of BIPOC participants in clinical trials, so doctors and patients and lawmakers have the critical information they need to make informed decisions, and save lives.

Across all types of cancer, race matters. About 224,080 new cancer cases and 73,680 cancer deaths are expected among Black people in 2022. Black people have the highest death rate and shortest survival of any racial/ethnic group in the US for most cancers. Latinx people are the second least likely to be diagnosed with cancer, but cancer is a leading cause of death among Latinx people.
