Do The Work Pledge
Tuesday 12:00 AM - Wednesday 11:59 PM CDT
UChicago Graduate Council’s Juneteenth series is meant to represent the UC community coming together to make a public commitment to engage in anti-racist learning and active allyship. The Do The Work pledge is a commitment by the UChicago community to engage in anti-racist learning and active allyship. By signing the Do The Work Pledge, I commit to do at least one of the following: 1) Attend UC Juneteenth events (registration information located on our website) 2) Donate money and/or volunteer with our sponsored organization Brave Space Alliance, and challenge my classmates to do the same 3) Seek independent opportunities to engage in activism and allyship I take this pledge, recognizing that the struggle to eliminate racism requires ongoing transformation at the individual, institutional, and societal level. Thus, I challenge myself to continuously engage in this work.
Join us for the inaugural Juneteenth commemoration! UChicago Grad Council in partnership with the Black Grad Coalition, and Office of Multicultural Student Affairs is bringing a month-long series of events focusing on Black students and building effective allyship. As part of these events we are encouraging the UChicago community to take our Pledge to learn and give back as well as donate to a local organization who is leading the way in creating empowered communities.
This year we are raising funds for Brave Space Alliance, the first Black-led, trans-led LGBTQ+ Center located on the South Side of Chicago, dedicated to creating and providing affirming, culturally competent, for-us by-us resources, programming, and services for LGBTQ+ individuals on the South and West sides of the city. We strive to empower, embolden, and educate each other through mutual aid, knowledge-sharing, and the creation of community-sourced resources as we build toward the liberation of all oppressed peoples.
Sign the pledge and donate to Brave Space Alliance by purchasing a ticket. You can learn more about the months events, including the keynote speaker Angela Davis, and register at our website. We look forward to kicking-off this inaugural event with you!
