Backpack Prototype Finalization
Imagine this: You’re in the restroom when your school suddenly goes on lockdown due to an active shooter. The classroom doors are all locked before you can get into one, and no one can let you in—not even if they recognize you. This is the reality my young children and I discussed after #Uvalde. It’s heart-wrenching to think about the fear teachers and students must feel in those moments.
After every school shooting—#Columbine, #SandyHook, #Parkland, #Uvalde—the same conversations arise about how to protect our children. But this time, I felt there were no solutions that truly addressed the safety of my 7- and 5-year-old kids or their teachers.
That’s why I founded The Safety Standard. We’re a non-profit committed to providing personal safety equipment—like bullet-resistant backpacks and jackets—to every student and school staff member who wants it.
We believe safety should never be a luxury. Our goal is to make affordable, reliable protective gear accessible to all K-12 schools, so no one has to face the unimaginable without a layer of protection.
We’re in the final stages of developing our first bullet-resistant backpack prototype, but we can’t do it alone. Lives are at stake, and the time to act is now.
Join us in reimagining school safety. Donate today to help bring this vision to life. Together, we can create safer schools for everyone.
