The Drone Donation Request

I am writing to you today in the hope that your organization will be able to assist our team in acquiring a critical missing component. We are based out of Pahrump, a small town in Southern Nevada located approximately 60 miles outside of Las Vegas. We are the SAR team for the County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO). Nye County covers 18,181 square miles of desert and mountainous terrain, making us the third largest county in the United States. Additionally, we operate with MOUs with Covering County/State/Federal lands In Nevada & California. Spanning areas from Mojave, and Death Valley, to Lake Meade areas.

We are fortunate to have 33 dedicated volunteers who are always ready to spring into action whenever our community or neighboring communities require our assistance. We take our roles in public service very seriously and undergo rigorous training to ensure we are prepared for any situation.
Unfortunately, our rural county and Sheriff's office is only able to provide limited funding, and we heavily rely on fundraisers to cover our expenses and vehicle upkeep. Each of our members has personally purchased all required personal protective equipment and items used during missions, callouts, and LEO-supported actions.
Our communication coordinator has made significant personal investments to establish a UAS team. I am proud to announce that we now have 2 (soon to be 4) UAS pilots with their Part 107 licenses, 2 Visual Observers, and 1 Landing Zone Safety Coordinator. One of our Pilots also self-funded the training and testing to attain a Level 2 Certified sUAS Thermographer.

After several months of intensive safety, operations, and NIST training, we recently had the opportunity to deploy our skills on several successful missions outlined below using a borrowed Autel EVO 4N.
Over our first 45 Days of full operation capabilities, we have been deployed in various roles mostly to support the SO and our local community. We flew overwatch for our Incident Command at our town's HS graduation where we estimate over 4000 people were in attendance. we were able to monitor crowd movement, offsite parking, and traffic for the NCSO coordination. We also supported a felony suspect search resulting in a positive outcome, additionally, we have supported SWAT operations serving high-risk warrants and other man-tracking efforts. With not just the equipment but also our general operating procedures, and capabilities through advanced training we have shown to be valuable asset to our community.

Our team has now reached a critical juncture where we need a dedicated, fully equipped UAS ready for deployment. Our experience has shown that a UAS can significantly reduce response times in covering desert and mountainous areas. Equipped with thermal and starlight technology, we would be able to conduct night missions more effectively and safely scout ahead, thereby enhancing the safety of our search teams.
