2023 ULOHC Annual Empowerment Awards
Join the Urban League of Hudson County, Inc. for our Annual Empowerment Awards Gala!
The Empowerment Awards serve as a way to honor individuals and corporations that are making an impact in the community.
This year is extra special, as we are also celebrating our 51st Anniversary! This year's theme is A Golden Gala: 'Empowering Communities, Changing Lives' for 51 years to commemorate this achievement.
The Urban League of Hudson County is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt organization with fifty years of continued public social service to communities throughout Hudson County and beyond. We are proud of our record of service, which focuses on vulnerable populations.
We have gained notoriety as a solid community organization with extensive private and public support. Through our annual Gala fundraiser, we raise unrestricted needed funds to supplement underfunded programs such as; employment and training, afterschool programs, and senior services. Annually we impact over 9,000 children, 6,000 families, and 2,500 seniors.
In addition, we also offer these programs:
- Delivering childcare resources and referral services to over 5,200 families and 8,700 children throughout Hudson County. By working with more than 300 licensed daycare centers throughout Hudson County and over 120 childcare providers in the Family Child Care (FCC) and the Family, Friends, and Neighbors (FFN) program, we can support both families and our small business community.
- Promoting continuing adult education through the teaching of GED courses, as well as hands-on training programs such as the civil construction pre-apprenticeship and training program, co-sponsored by the New York-New Jersey Port Authority.
- Enhancing the quality of life for our senior citizen population in Hudson county through the Senior Supportive Services, National Family Care Givers, and Jersey Assistance to Community Care Givers programs
- Education, youth development, and family support through such programs as Life Skills, Outreach To At-risk Youth (OTARY), Power Up, Computer Literacy and Coding for youth and In-Home Counseling, Adopt-A-Parent, and Supervised Visitation.
- Developing affordable housing for low/moderate-income families through the rehabilitation of vacant apartment buildings through the Urban League Affordable Housing and Community Development Corporation, a subsidiary of the Urban League Of Hudson County since 1993.
- Providing healthcare enrollment navigators to assist uninsured New Jersey residents in obtaining affordable healthcare through GETCOVEREDNJ.
