THE SHOW
Ophelia is a new musical based on the character from Hamlet. In this show Ophelia is struggling with her identity in a world where everyone else is telling her who she should be. Her father, her brother, Hamlet, and even her garden full of flowers all have opinions on what it means to be a woman in the state of Denmark. The musical explores the different facets of feminine identity and Ophelia's changing relationship with those around her.

Ophelia is written and composed by Jeremiah Gibbons and produced by Phoenix Tears Productions, a 501c3 Non-Profit theater company. The show will perform in December 2023 at Fringe ArtSpace.

THE PRODUCTION
Jeremiah first began working on Ophelia in 2011. He was inspired by the story of Hamlet in college. Ophelia was often seen as weak and a pushover, but Jeremiah always felt there was so much to be said about her. At a Halloween event in 2018 Jeremiah sang a song from the show and it immediately caught the attention of the Phoenix Tears team. They had worked with Phoenix Tears in the past as a performer and was thrilled to partner to fully realize Ophelia.

Workshop readings of the script and music composition began in 2019 and by the beginning of 2020 the show had been cast. A staged reading of the show was scheduled for March 2020 and a full production for December 2020. Sadly the pandemic put an immediate halt to those plans and the project was shelved.

With the opening of Fringe ArtSpace Phoenix Tears Productions saw an opportunity to revive the project. Working with both new and old cast and crew Ophelia is back and better than ever. We are so proud of everything this team is doing to bring the production to an audience this December.

Ophelia's story deserves to be told now more than ever and we are so excited to be able to bring her and this musical to life.

WHERE THE MONEY GOES
There is a lot that goes into creating a musical, and that is where you come in. With your help and support we can turn this dream into a reality. Every dollar you donate goes directly to helping with aspects of this production. As a non-profit theater company we rely entirely on the tax deductible donations of patrons like you. We have been blessed to be given the opportunity to perform in a venue that is not charging us rental fees, but we still have a lot we need to pay for.

Any additional money we raise beyond our goal will go towards better equipment and giving more money to the hard working artists who give their time and energy to this project.
