Over the past decade, the Virgin Islands has lost two of its newspapers, The St. Croix Avis and the St. John Tradewinds, leaving The Daily News as the territory's only daily newspaper offering the community both print and online editions. As part of our ongoing commitment as a community newspaper and government watchdog, establishing The Virgin Islands Community Journalism Project (VICJP) is an initial step toward transitioning The Daily News to IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.
Journalism Funding Partners, a California-based 501(c)(3) currently serving over 75 newsrooms throughout the United States, serves as the fiscal sponsor for the VICJP. This enables The Daily News to accept tax-deductible charitable donations to expand our local news coverage with additional staff, tools and technology. Funds will also be used to establish an investigative and enterprise reporting team to provide in-depth coverage of key issues that impact the quality of life for all Virgin Islanders.
We ask for your support as we strive to maintain the quality and preserve the integrity of community journalism in our islands. Your donation, large or small, will help us retain and recruit journalists and editors focused on keeping our community informed.
We welcome your questions, comments and ideas at any time.
THANK YOU for your consideration!
