We are the Links!

Each year, the Bergen County (New Jersey) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated hosts its celebrated Mother’s Day Luncheon — a beloved tradition and the Chapter’s signature event. Now in its 19th year, this highly anticipated occasion draws a capacity crowd year after year, uniting our community in a spirit of joy, camaraderie, and purpose.

The Luncheon was established with two founding purposes: to raise funds that help area high school seniors meet the growing costs of higher education, and to honor a Bergen County resident — male or female — whose selfless service and dedication have made a lasting difference in our community. This honoree is recognized through the Dr. Theodora Smiley Lacey Award, so named in 2025 to pay tribute to our treasured Platinum member and the first President of the Chapter, whose pioneering leadership laid the foundation for everything we celebrate today.

Candidate names are submitted to the Chapter, which makes its selection after a thoughtful review of accomplishments and contributions that reflect the highest spirit of the honor. Chapter members also work diligently to solicit scholarship applicants from surrounding high schools, seeking students who demonstrate academic excellence, financial need, and a commitment to community service. The honoree and scholars are proudly recognized at the luncheon.

The afternoon is as joyful as it is impactful. Guests enjoy a wonderful meal, share in the dancing and entertainment, and participate in spirited private bidding from their tables — all in the name of a great cause. The energy, laughter, and generosity shared among attendees make this event truly unforgettable. The Chapter is deeply grateful for the additional scholarship contributions that private bidding generates, as this support allows us to extend our reach and make an even greater difference in the lives of deserving students. Through the collective generosity of our supporters, the Chapter has awarded tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships over the life of this event.
