Valley Voices: A Year of Impact Powered by Community, Fueled by You

This year, Valley Voices showed what’s possible when a community stands together to care for, protect, and uplift one another. In Kings County, where working families often face barriers to food, healthcare, workers’ rights, and civic information, your support helped us meet needs and build long-term community power. Because of you, our team was able to deliver real, measurable impact:

Meeting Basic Needs

Food insecurity remains one of the biggest challenges in our rural communities. Thanks to community partnerships and dedicated volunteers at our 3 community food distribution sites in Avenal, Huron, and Stratford.

9,216 individuals — representing 2,969 households — received groceries through our food distributions this year.

Supporting Workers

Our Workers' Rights Program is reaching agricultural and essential workers where they are: in the fields, at flea markets, at places of worship, at grocery stores, and other high-traffic areas.

3,493 workers received workers’ rights education
58 workers received direct support on wage theft, safety, and employer issues

Protecting Community Health

Our public health outreach team ensured families had access to education and tools that keep them safe.

561 vaccines administered in partnership with the Kings County Department of Public Health
1,139 antigen tests distributed
3 perimenopause workshops hosted
- 172 individuals were educated about perimenopause

Expanding Civic Power

This year, we had over 5,200 civic engagement conversations, helping first-time voters, youth, new citizens, and families across generations step into their power. Whether someone was learning who their elected officials are, attending their first local meeting, engaging with city or county government, making a public comment, registering to vote, understanding their voting rights, or showing up at the polls — we were there to support them every step of the way.

New Citizens Program: Opening the Door to Opportunity

One of the most transformative steps a person can take is becoming a U.S. Citizen, but for many lawful permanent residents in Kings County, the $760 application fee is nearly impossible to afford. That financial barrier keeps families from accessing better jobs, petitioning loved ones, voting, and living without fear. That’s why Valley Voices launched the New Citizens Program: To remove that financial barrier and provide bilingual support for eligible residents completing the naturalization process. Through this program, families gain stability. Parents can vote in their children’s future. Elders can finally feel a sense of belonging. Generations can stay together. Your donation helps us provide application fee support, exam preparation, transportation, translation, and one-on-one accompaniment — ensuring that becoming a U.S. Citizen isn’t a privilege reserved for those who can afford it.

Know Your Rights Trainings

We provide clear, accessible education on constitutional rights, interactions with law enforcement, protections for undocumented individuals, and workplace safety. These trainings help families feel safer, more informed, and ready to advocate for themselves.

Rapid Response & Navigation

Our team, as part of a regional network, assists community members during emergencies, connects families to immigration legal services, and ensures people get the resources they need. When families don’t know where to turn, they turn to Valley Voices.
