I Can See Clearly Now

For several years, the school has been fortunate to team with Roxy Sandoval and Nationwide Vision to conduct screenings for all of our students here at the school, and to provide corrective eyeglass wear for the students that need it. The benefits of hosting the program at the school include making it easier for the parents, cutting down on the child's time out of the classroom for office visits, and promoting the social and emotional elements of wearing glasses - no one is teased about needing glasses, or stresses out about it, when a lot of kids get them at the same time. Add to this the benefit of kids seeing the world around them (especially the teacher's lessons!) and you can quickly understand why we value this amazing partnership.

For these same years, most of the cost of this invaluable service has been provided for by the state's Medicaid program known as AHCCCS, with the school contributing some general fund dollars if needed. While that is still true for most of our kids, unfortunately this year a larger than normal number of our students and their families have either lost their ability to continue using AHCCS or are not eligible for other reasons. We still want to help these kids; we need your help to do it.

To help our students be able to say "I Can See Clearly Now" (cue the song!) we're asking for your help. We currently have 9 families (totaling 13 students) who are not covered by insurance, so we would like to raise at least the $715 needed to cover their eye exam costs. Furthermore, we anticipate that at least 4 of the students will need glasses (this number could change, based on results of the exams) so we'd like to ask for an additional $800 to cover the cost of those eyeglasses.
