For decades, the heartbeat of cannabis lived in neighborhoods, basements, farms, and back roads. It lived with the growers, healers, hustlers, advocates, and culture-keepers who risked everything long before dispensaries and billion-dollar brands existed.

But now, in the era of legalization, many of those same pioneers are being erased.

The Legacy Project is a feature documentary capturing this transition in real time. We’re following the people who carried this culture when it was dangerous, illegal, and life-changing. And we’re documenting their fight to remain visible as legalization reshapes the industry around them.

It’s not just a documentary. It’s a record of history that’s being rewritten in real time.

Why This Film Matters:

Legalization is creating a booming industry… but it’s also leaving behind the people who laid the foundation upon which the industry now stands. Black and brown communities impacted by criminalization. Small farmers crushed by regulation. Legacy operators who kept the culture alive but can’t afford to enter the legal market.

This film exists to:

Preserve the stories that aren’t being documented.
Expose the human cost of cannabis prohibition.
Show the real challenges of “equity” in the legal industry.
Protect the cultural history of cannabis before it gets whitewashed.
Give voice to the people who shaped the culture.

This is our history. And if we don’t capture it now, it disappears.

About the Filmmaker:

M. Omari Jackson is a filmmaker, storyteller, and advocate working at the intersection of cannabis, culture, and equity. Through Ganjactivist.com and years of community-based work, he has been amplifying voices in cannabis long before the industry became profitable or mainstream.
