Sea MD Crew

Sea MD journeys empower young people through the unique and liberating medium of SCUBA diving while living aboard an accommodating and stable ocean catamaran.

The Sea MD Host Catatmaran is a platform where so-called "disabled" young people flex their inner strength and resilience. Through the transformative power of the sea, we empower our participants to defy limitations and embrace newfound destinies.

Sea MD crews include a licensed host Captain; a Registered Nurse experienced in a range of disabilities, including physical and developmental challenges, vision and hearing impairments, amputations, traumatic brain injuries, and more; and a Personal Care Provider ("Sea Companion".)

Sea MD Personal Care Crew Members provide assistance with:

Dressing, hygiene, and using the bathroom

Taking medications and managing personal care

Getting in and out of bed and help with moving about

Assist with Certified Adaptive SCUBA divers

Assist with Adaptive Sailing, Kayaking, Beachcombing, and Snorkeling

Sea MD Curriculum

The Sea MD mission goes beyond accessibility, as every journey is catalyst for triumph. The Sea MD Reef Science six-day curriculum combines hands-on adaptive Sailing and SCUBA diving instruction for young people living with MD, ALS, and other neuromuscular diseases and conditions, including immersive learning experiences supporting the United States Virgin Islands' Coral Reef Management Priorities 2020-2025. As participants explore the ocean depths, they gain a deeper understanding of marine conservation and establish their role as scientists in protecting our planet's most precious ecosystems. Sea MD participants dream, discover, and become invested stewards of the ocean, understanding its power, beauty, and fragility in equal measure.

Sea MD Journey Expenses

How your donation will be applied:

All Sea MD Donations are utilized 100% to administer and facilitiate adaptive sailing and SCUBA diving journeys for desreving young people living with Muscular Dystrophy, ALS, and other neuromuscular diseases.

Expenses for a 1 Week Sea MD Journey include:

Host Accessible Catamaran (5 nights stay for participants and team members)
Licensed Captain
Specialized Personal Care Provider ("Sea Companion")
Land Transportation (including airport transfers)
Provisions (all food and beverages for participants and crew)
SCUBA Dive Fees (including rental gear, and Certified Adaptive SCUBA-assist Diver)
Insurance Costs (liability insurance, health insurance for participants and crew)
Personnel Expenses (salary, training, and accommodations for support crew)
Equipment Maintenance and Repair (maintenance of adaptive water sports and SCUBA diving equipment)
Administrative Expenses (office supplies, utilities, communication expenses)
