As 2024 draws to an end, you have the opportunity to double your donation to WARM! Four generous donors have come together with a grant to match your donation, dollar for dollar, up to $20,000, and we are thankful for a chance to Continue the Kindness of WARM's welcoming work among the refugees in central and western Massachusetts.

Your donation allows us to directly assist refugees with physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, in partnership with other agencies serving refugees. We do this by serving as the bridge from the local church to our cities' refugees. WARM mobilizes and trains volunteers; equipping them with the tools, resources, and cultural sensitivity they need to make a difference in the lives of people like Nazy*, an 18 year old girl from Afghanistan who came to Worcester in 2021 with her parents and 10 younger siblings. Nazy's family is from a rural part of Afghanistan where she had no access to education. Today she and her siblings are all enrolled in school. They are learning to read for the first time, very far behind but fighting to overcome language and cultural barriers in order to learn.

We welcome and serve refugees from all over the world and your partnership gives us the resources we need to continue to meet refugees with openness and love. Jesus taught his followers that when they welcome a stranger, they are really welcoming Jesus himself, and our partners, our volunteers and donors, are doing that every day!

Provide refugees with double the support!

2024 has been an incredible year of welcoming; refugees who are new to America need a lot of support to build their new lives. They immediately need housing, transportation, employment, medical care, and English lessons. As the dust begins to settle and they stabilize, the needs shift and become more relationship-oriented. They need genuine friendships. They need mental health services to address the trauma, transitions, and losses they've experienced. The kids need tutoring to overcome education gaps and catch up to their grade level. Different members of the family learn to drive and buy their first car. So many needs can seem overwhelming!

That's where YOU come in! Join WARM's incredible network of partners today and help us reach refugees with the welcoming love of God demonstrated in practical ways including (but not limited to): English classes and driving lessons for adults, apartment set ups, doula services and baby showers for expectant moms, afterschool programs like homework help, rock climbing, and soccer, therapeutic art classes, culturally sensitive mental health support groups, and wrap-around care provided by our Befriend A Family (BAF) teams.

What does your donation do?

$25 - one ESL book for one student (x2 till 12/31)

$50 - one volunteer trained and onboarded to welcome (x2 till 12/31)

$100 - one apartment setup for new arrivals (x2 till 12/31)

$150 - one Hope Group session for Afghan women (x2 till 12/31)

$500 - wrap-around care for a refugee family of 4 during their transition months (x2 till 12/31)

Teen and Youth Programs

This year WARM began to focus on meeting the needs of refugee teens and kids. Gaps in their education and lack of access to education on the refugee highway often put students well behind their peers in essential skills like math, reading, and other core subjects. In addition to this, many refugee kids have experienced severe trauma that can impact the brain's ability to learn, as it puts them in constant survival mode. They are often barred from extracurricular activities and feel isolated in their new home. So our incredible volunteers have come together to put on a soccer school for elementary school students, weekly pick up soccer games for the teens, a rock climbing program for kids, a summer art class for teen girls, and weekly homework help! These programs are FULL of kids who are growing in their confidence and skills. Pick up soccer alone served 90 teens from 14 countries! And your kind donation would allow us to serve even MORE kids!

Empowering Women Through Friendship

Refugee women are some of the strongest, most resilient people in the world! They have faced dangers and pain that many of us can't even imagine, and yet they are joyful, kind, and hospitable beyond measure. We are blessed to provide them with doula services, baby showers, English and literacy classes, and Hope Groups (mental health support using Interpersonal Group Therapy) to help them address depression. Women are often the last members of the family to learn essential survival and sustainability skills like English, reading, and driving, but with your help, WARM is able to empower women to confidently navigate the American medical system, and get the help they need to care for themselves and their families.
