Some people touch our lives not just through their words, but through their actions – through the quiet dedication that inspires everyone around them. This was Edouard Leon, a beloved fixture of the Little Haiti community. Wherever he was, his heart remained in Little Haiti, where he'd return for the simplest pleasures – from his regular haircuts to picking up Haitian bread at the bakery on 62nd. His commitment to community ran as deep as his passion for running.

Every morning before Miami woke up, you'd find him lacing up his running shoes, ready to embrace another day on the road. His only rest day was Saturday, and even then, he'd joke that he'd run in any weather – even snow – if running was calling him. From his first strides in his mid-20s until just two weeks before he left us, Edouard showed us what it means to truly love running. Whether he was crossing the finish line at the New York Marathon, feeling the vibrant energy of the Miami Marathon, or dancing through the Calle Ocho Carnaval Marathon, he ran with joy, determination, and heart.

Now, his family has chosen a beautiful way to honor his memory – by supporting The Running Edge, a Black-led running organization in Miami that shares Edouard’s belief in the transformative power of running. Just as Edouard never missed a day on the road, The Running Edge never turns away a young athlete, providing free coaching and training to ensure every child has the chance to discover their potential as a runner.

We're raising funds to help The Running Edge secure their non-profit status. This milestone will allow them to expand their impact and continue breaking down barriers in our running community – creating a living legacy that would make Edouard proud. Each time a young runner laces up their shoes at The Running Edge, they'll be carrying forward the same spirit that got Edouard out on the road every morning.
