Vision
The vision of the West End Community Empowerment Project (WECEP) of Lexington Inc. is to foster a vibrant community that is actively engaged in promoting family values, healthy lifestyles, maximizing educational opportunities and civic and economic development.
History
The West End Community Empowerment Project (WECEP) of Lexington Inc. is a grassroots project located in the Black and Williams Neighborhood Center since its inception. WECEP was founding in January 1995, incorporated in April 1996 and received its 501(c)3 non-profit status in 2021. In order to better serve its constituents in the Georgetown Street Corridor area, WECEP received a child care license for its school-age program, Sankofa University, in October 2010.
WECEP's Programs
WECEP's programming is resolved in providing the most advanced technological and education opportunities as well as leadership development to the underserved children, youth and families of Lexington, particularly for academic enhancement, employment, and career opportunities for those living in the Georgetown Street Corridor area.
The concept of the Sankofa University is to provide affordable, quality school-age programming for low-income families needing school age care. Currently the university offers an array of academic, social, behavioral, and cultural enrichment and community service programs with adult/peer mentoring and parent/guardian/family and community involvement.
