It includes a set of strategies—backed by the latest scientific research—that aim to advance human health through design interventions and operational protocols and policies and foster a culture of health and well-being. While it was mainly used in the commercial setting, how can WELL help those in residential living spaces live better? Drawing upon his prior experience in sales and genuine interest in health and wellness, Matthew is passionate about helping companies and real estate professionals understand the value of all WELL products and how they can integrate WELL into their business plans and budgets. Matthew drives pipeline growth and activation while also supporting new clients as they start their journey with WELL. Matthew is originally from Forest Hills, New York and has cultivated considerable international experience growing up in a family with ties to the UK. He earned his BA in Business and Sustainability from Muhlenberg College. During his time as an undergraduate, he also studied abroad at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. Matthew is also a Licensed Real Estate Salesperson, specializing in luxury Manhattan and Brooklyn sales and rentals. In his free time, he can be found on the court playing tennis, on the beach relaxing, or out enjoying NYC restaurants. Janera Soerel Senior Director Global Market Development Real Estate Janera specializes in creating spaces that integrate wellness and sustainability. She is a Senior Director at IWBI and a WELL Accredited Professional. Before joining IWBI, Janera led Business Development and Client Management at BetterSpaces, the tenant amenities and workplace wellbeing company. There she successfully expanded the client base, launched and operated tenant amenity spaces, and executed engaging community building programs. Her interest in the wellness space was sparked when she was the Program Director at Donna Karan’s foundation Urban Zen, which connects the dots between alternative healing practices, education, and the preservation of indigenous cultures. She has continued on the wellness journey ever since. Entrepreneurial at heart, Janera founded SecondHouse, a wellness real estate company which managed a network of country, beach, and mountain homes around New York City. She built the member community from scratch, added corporate retreats to the hospitality offerings, and obtained her New York Real Estate Salesperson license. Janera is an international economist with an MBA from Columbia Business School. She is fluent in English, Dutch, Italian, and Spanish, and started her career in corporate finance in Amsterdam (NL) and Milan (IT). She is an avid yogi, runner, and surfer, and is passionate about travel. Lessons Learned Understand that the WELL Building Standard promotes health by emphasizing the importance of air, water, nourishment, light, sound, thermal comfort, materials, mind, and community in residential and commercial spaces. Analyze how WELL's focus on air and water quality, as well as thermal comfort, enhances safety and well-being in both commercial and residential buildings. Introduce the principles of the WELL Building Standard to residential spaces to articulate the importance of creating healthier and safer environments for inhabitants. Articulate the significance of implementing WELL standards in residential living spaces to improve the overall welfare and well-being of individuals and communities.
