Liam was born at 36 weeks due to a pregnancy complication called polyhydramnios. After closely monitoring his heart and brain activity for 6 weeks, his heartbeat became irregular and required him to be delivered early via c-section.
After delivery, his heartbeat became normal but he struggled to regulate his own temperature. The hospital he was delivered at did not have a NICU and he was never transferred to one that did. After 3 days of recovery, they told us to keep him bundled and sent us home.
One week after his birth, we went to our first pediatric appointment where his temperature read only 94°F (34°C). They told us to get to a Children's emergency room ASAP. We drove over an hour to Akron Children's. And because his body temp was so low, he was admitted to the NICU.
Although we only spent about a week there, Akron Children's NICU will forever hold a very special place in our hearts. Without their medical team, I honestly don't know where we would be today and we will always be so thankful for everything they have given us!
