What Makes You Feel Beautiful is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is dedicated to empowering girls and women to cultivate self-love at every age and phase of life through education, mentorship, and resources that help them develop self-love, self-esteem and confidence.

Our vision is a world where all girls and women feel confident, empowered, and safe in their own skin, and where self-love is celebrated and embraced as an essential part of personal well-being and growth.

Self-Love: We believe that self-love is the foundation of personal growth, that every person has the potential to cultivate it and that cultivating self-love is essential to building confidence and resilience.

Inclusivity: We embrace diversity and recognize that everyone has unique experiences and perspectives that should be respected and celebrated regardless of age, race, gender, size or background.

Empowerment: We are committed to empowering girls and women to take charge of their lives, make informed decisions, and reach their full potential.

What Makes You Feel Beautiful is a Maui based, 501(c)3 nonprofit female empowerment organization providing the F.L.Y, First Love Yourself, program. The FLY program is an inspirational, educational, and personal development program for girls and women.

From our founding, our mission has been to provide training, guidance, and a continuum of support for all women, at all stages of life, through attentive listening, mentoring, life coaching and effective group programs. The goal being for Maui girls and women to attain life, personal and career goals, and find success in their lives. Our program is constantly improving, responding to girl’s and women’s emerging needs, to find solutions to their personal challenges and to societal changes.

We reject any notion of injustice, intolerance, or inequity based on race, color, gender, socio-economic or academic status, nationality, body size, or religion, with a demonstrated core focus on inclusivity.

What Makes You Feel Beautiful’s successful program includes one-on-one mentoring, workshops, and training. The FLY program was created to support our mission that fosters self-love, self-esteem, self-confidence, leadership, and occupational success in girls and women, with a renewed emphasis on counseling and training young women.

Because What Makes You Feel Beautiful is committed to answering women’s needs whenever and wherever they emerge, WMYFB cannot ignore the significant and dramatic problem for Maui’s young women who are leaving high school before graduation.

WMYFB believes that the high school girls, aged 13-17, continue to be at high risk for dropping out of high school, without skills, and without direction, at a vulnerable age. Today, post-covid, WMYFB recognizes a dramatic up-tick in hopelessness and depression among young women in high school.

Responding to this critical situation we have developed a program designed for at -risk and disadvantaged young women, ages 13-17 (grades 9-12), to be launched in March 2023. To answer what we see as a critical need, WMYFB wants to pilot this program in Maui High schools and other non-profit organizations like Boy and Girls Club of Maui.

WMYFB has restructured its tested program, F.L.Y (First Love Yourself) program, as the FLY/High School Program to assist, stimulate, train, and inspire at-risk and disadvantaged girls so they can achieve their full potential by building their self-esteem to become productive and confident members of society.

F.L.Y First Love Yourself Program has three basic goals for each participant:

To identify what each person was taught to believe about herself/themselves and to understand how those beliefs have impacted behavior, decisions, and relationships
To create a new, improved personal system of beliefs, supported by a unique set of self-empowerment principles, techniques and goals
To develop personal tools that support an improved attitude - to ensure growth, self-awareness, self-confidence, well-being, and positivism.

The FLY High School Program techniques address and answer a significant challenge for educators, parents and girl groups: How to successfully engage and encourage at-risk female students to focus on education and job training, while encouraging young women to stay in school and to pursue a path to a permanent job or higher education - with a high school diploma

WMYFB, through FLY/High School, teaches life skills and increases self-esteem necessary for personal success, under the guidance of a trained and compassionate group leader, so that young women can flourish, and find success despite obstacles and personal difficulties.

Mentoring programs like FLY have demonstrated proven success in high schools: young women who are part of similar groups stay in high school, graduate and are guided to post-high school programs – both technical and academic.

Through F.L.Y, young women will be taught to make better choices for themselves, which encourages them to see themselves in a life beyond teenage pregnancy, domestic violence, drug, and alcohol abuse, in a life without anxiety or depression. F.L.Y student participation can make a critical difference for Maui’s young women– in a way that is not available today.
