On October 10, 2025, Washington Street Mission experienced a major sewer line failure beneath the concrete floors of our bathrooms. The break caused significant flooding and contamination in both restrooms and our shower area—spaces that are essential for providing comfort, dignity, and hygiene to our guests each day.

To ensure the safety of everyone we serve, we were forced to temporarily shut down all services while professional crews began excavating the floor, replacing the damaged sewer line, and repairing the affected areas. In addition to the line replacement, the bottom two feet of drywall in both restrooms and the shower area had to be removed, along with any materials exposed to the backup. The entire area is now being thoroughly cleaned and treated with antimicrobial solutions to meet health and safety standards.

These unexpected repairs will cost between $15,000 and $20,000, creating a major financial challenge for our ministry. Every dollar raised through this campaign will go directly toward the repairs needed to reopen the Mission and restore the space where hundreds of individuals experiencing homelessness find daily hope, community, and care.

Your gift today will help us:

  • Repair and restore the bathrooms and shower area

  • Ensure a clean and safe environment for guests and staff

  • Reopen the Mission’s daily outreach to those in need

Washington Street Mission has been a place of faith, refuge, and renewal in Springfield for more than a century. With your help, we can overcome this setback and continue to support our neighbors who need it most.

🙏 Please consider making a donation today to help us reopen our doors and continue this life-changing work.
