Screening and Discussion

In recognition of the 16 Days Against Gender-Based Violence, we're taking a look at the experiences of women around the globe working in their local communities to advance women's rights. Join us to watch three powerful documentary films about women's experiences around the world and participate in a discussion alongside the youth participants of MOSTe and Girls' Voices Now.

The Neighborhood Storyteller:

War tragically pushed Asmaa out of her home country, Syria, where her destiny had been written as a wife and mother with only 16 years of age. Asmaa rebuilt her adult identity as the neighborhood storyteller and began using reading aloud to children for fun as a bridge to tackle critical issues in her new community at the Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan.

Hija Callada (The Silent Daughter)*:

This film introduces us to three different women from three different generations and families, who all discuss their trauma and stories involving the generational trauma within their families.

The Beauty in Being Different*:

This film three girls sharing their story about not fitting the mold due to their feelings of inadequacy stemming from the harmful effects of beauty standards and how they overcome it.

*These films were produced in the Women's Voices Now Youth Filmmaking Program, Girls Voices Now during the summers 2022 and 2023.
