What is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving. It was founded in response to Black Friday and Cyber Monday as a way to highlight the high spending on material goods and funnel some of the end-of-year gifting and generosity towards supporting nonprofit causes.

Does it work?

Yes and no. Giving Tuesday relies on advocacy and people power. For big nonprofits with celebrity advocates and global recognition, it’s easy for them to get their message heard amidst all of the noise of Giving Tuesday.

For smaller organizations, or local nonprofits like Wisconsin Youth Company, we can’t shout by ourselves. The power of Giving Tuesday comes from many voices rallying around a cause together. For us, Giving Tuesday is only successful if we are able to rally supporters to shout with our organization.

Who can shout with us?
