Reflecting on the life of a gentle giant, Brother Walter Wesley joined the esteemed ranks of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. through the Upsilon Chapter at Kansas University in the spring of 1965. His influence extended to the revitalization of the Xi Omicron Lambda Chapter in Fort Myers, FL, in 2004.

In acknowledgment of his athletic and philanthropic endeavors, Wesley was awarded the esteemed Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity's "Jessie Owens Award of Excellence" during the 104th Anniversary Convention of Alpha Phi Alpha in Las Vegas, Nevada, in July 2010. Moreover, in 2023, the Xi Omicron Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. paying tribute to Brother Wesley's achievements by establishing a scholarship in his honor.
