Help Wawel Go to Rzeszow!
Dance Group Wawel to Make History at the 20th International Polish Folk Dance Festival in Rzeszów!
Dance Group Wawel is thrilled to announce that we are going to Poland for the 20th Anniversary of the International Polish Folk Dance Festival (Światowy Festiwal Polonijnych Zespołów Folklorystycznych). This prestigious event in Rzeszów is a chance for our group to shine on an international stage, bringing our Texan pride to the heart of Poland.
This renowned festival unites Polish folk dance ensembles from across the globe including groups from Brazil, Lithuania, Australia, France, the United States, Ukraine, and Canada. Over the course of six days, we will present our repertoire in villages across the Podkarpacie region, march in a grand parade through the streets of Rzeszów, and perform in a massive Gala Concert featuring dances from every attending nation.
This trip is a historic opportunity. Not only will our dancers connect with fellow artists from around the world, but Wawel will also proudly serve as the first Polish dance group from Texas to ever attend the festival!
To ensure we represent our community at the highest level, we are partnering with Maciej Smusz, a director and expert choreographer of Polish dance in the US. Through intensive workshops, Mr. Smusz is helping us prepare two ambitious new suites: dances from Krosno and the Łemko region. Working alongside our brilliant director, Yessica Krozel, this collaboration ensures that Wawel will not just attend the festival, but deliver a performance of professional caliber that commands respect and commendation.
We need your help to make this journey a reality. We are seeking contributions to assist with the substantial costs of transporting our costumes, covering festival fees, and managing travel expenses for our dancers. Every cent counts toward bringing Texas to Rzeszów. We hope we can count on your support!
