My birthday is February 3 and I'd love it if I can raise some money for the kitties of Leuk's Landing. With 74 cats and kittens in our care we've had some big expenses lately.

One extraordinatory expense is the cost of treatment for FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), a disease worse than Feline Leukemia (FeLV). Sadly, many of our kitties have weak immune systems and are prone to FIP. Also, in 2023 we took in a lot of kittens which are most prone to FIP. We are currently treating 7 cats (5 are under one year of age) for FIP and finished treating one cat in late 2023. Thankfully the cost of the meds has come way down but with 7 cats being treated, our medication bills are high. The good news is that the meds work well and we hope to have all 7 in remission after their 84 days of treatment. We know that they are still carrying the FeLV virus and hope to keep that at bay so they can also enjoy more days with us.

A second expense we have incurred lately is for dentals for many of our kitties. They are prone to lots of dental issues and fortunately we work with a great dental vet clinic that is able to get us in and give great care.

I have also decided that I'm getting to old to fight with the gas engine back up generator we use when the power goes out. I finally decided we need to break down and install a small standby generator. We are in the process of getting bids for one so I don't have to worry about getting out of bed in sub-zero temps to go see if the gas generator will work at 1:30am. Any funds over the $2000 I hope to raise will go toward the new generator.
