Friends, family, supporters,

First, I’d like to extend my sincerest gratitude to each and every one of you who have supported my journey as an artist, creator, dancer, educator, and leader. Creating art, opportunities, and community with others is my greatest calling and I am grateful every day to hold that space. It is with grand excitement that I share with you my newest venture and creation, Indigo Dance Company.

What is a dance company? A dance company is a curated group of dancers who create work together with the direction of a leader or group of leaders. Dance company directors create jobs, opportunities, and connection points for their dancers. Dance companies are essentially creative communities within the dance industry.

My name is Dani Burd, the founder and director of Indigo Dance Company. Indigo is a project-based, non-profit dance company rooted in Los Angeles, California. Indigo was born from my desire to simply continue to share and create space with other dancers, musicians, filmmakers, and artists alike. After creating my dance film production titled HOME last year with an incredible cast and crew, it became very clear to me that I wanted to continue to this journey of creation and leadership. Many of the artists from HOME will be returning as part of Indigo. Indigo is sprouting from my desire to create a community where we can come together to share our life experiences, process our present realities, and experience consistent joy, support, and laughter. The works we are creating prioritize collaboration, connection, conversation, musicality, and storytelling. Indigo Dance Company will create live dance performances, cinematic dance films, and community classes and workshops. In addition to this we will also be producing community events such as film screenings, live dance showcases, open classes to support other dance companies, and small business markets. Our intention is to create possibilities of connection within the LA arts communities and generate opportunities for artists to show their work.

With all of this being said, we are ecstatic to announce our debut performance titled Closer to... taking place August 16th + 17th at 8:30pm at Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica, CA. We will be sharing the playbill along side Leah Ziegler and her cast. Indigo will be performing in the first half of the night, and Leah's cast in the second.

As we enter our FIRST SEASON EVER, we are humbly asking our community for support to help us turn our vision into a reality. We are creating this fundraiser to aid in funding our debut performance and first season of the company. (Show description at the bottom of the page)

While Indigo will have an ever-changing cast to allow for more connection points and expansion, the original cast of season one debut performance will be considered our co-founding members in return for their dedication, energy, and efforts.

ALL LEVELS OPEN CLASS AND COMMUNITY SERVICE

Indigo prioritizes sharing, teaching, and being of service through dance. We do this by teaching an ALL-level open class series, called Unearthing Indigo, in the hopes of making the beautiful practice and craft of dance more accessible to everybody. These classes are designed in such a way that it allows for movers to develop a personal practice as well as uncover their authentic movement quality and style. Indigo Dance Company also produces dance, movement meditation, and somatic workshops curated for music/wellness festivals and wellness/healing retreats.

The performance will follow individual movers’ as they traverse their experiences, battles, breakdowns with, and ultimate surrender to, escapism. Regardless of our chosen form of escapism, our society views these attempts as feeble endeavors to run farther from life. But escapism is simply a byproduct of being human, something universally experienced and inevitable. It is in the loneliness surrounding escapism that our sadness, rage, fears, and nightmares come to life. Connection is the antidote. Our quest is not to be farther from, but rather, closer to our life source: our Universe, our soul, our Earth, our connection to one another.
