Help the May Day Cafe Workers Cooperative Sustain and Thrive

Join the Friends of May Day to help us keep this beloved community space healthy and strong for years to come!

Since February 2025, the May Day Cafe Workers Cooperative has been honored to steward May Day Cafe as a worker-owned business, focused on workplace dignity, community connection, and affordable delicious food for our neighbors. We've been blown away by how our community has shown up for us since this cooperative transition began. You have shown us the tangible meaning of community care, and we want to continue building that world alongside you. We imagine May Day Cafe as just one node in a bigger web that uplifts the values of dignity and agency for all people - a place of gathering, feeding, and supporting one another.

The Friends of May Day is our monthly sustaining donor program where we ask you, our community, to help us sustain this invaluable community cafe so we can pursue that vision together. 

As a small business, we come up against the limits of our economic system, one that is not structured for worker agency and dignity, consumer accessibility and quality, or respect for planet and people to thrive. We want to do something different, and we need your help to do it.

We have two goals for this program. The first is financial predictability. Your monthly contribution will help us to reliably plan ahead for: 

1. Saving up for inevitable future maintenance and equipment needs
2. Expanding our capacity for event programming, catering, and more
3. Ensuring that we can continue to operate without compromising our commitment to livable wages for all workers

The second goal is to create a pathway for community involvement and connection to this Cafe that we care so deeply about. By participating in the Friends of May Day monthly sustainer program you will receive an annual Friends of May Day Sustainer Card which entitles you to an extra free drink every month and other special insider gifts - along with the knowledge that your contribution is playing an essential role in the ongoing health and sustainability of May Day Cafe. 

Spaces like May Day don’t survive unless we sustain them. Join us in making the future of May Day Cafe our collective community responsibility.
