Honoring the Memory of Judge Giovanni Falcone
Sunday, May 26th, 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM EDT
In Person
The National Organization of Italian American Women, Greater Washington D.C. Region, invites you to the commemoration of Judge Giovanni Falcone: a Mass at Holy Rosary Church, followed by a civil ceremony and reception at Casa Italiana Sociocultural Center Inc. The event is co-sponsored by several other Italian American organizations. Judge Giovanni Falcone, the Italian judge and prosecuting magistrate symbol of the anti-Mafia fight, will be commemorated in D.C. on the 32nd anniversary of his assassination, in May 1992. NOIAW, together with other Italian American organizations, joins the tradition followed by Casa Italiana Sociocultural Center Inc., which organizes the commemoration in two different steps: a Mass to be held at the Holy Rosary Church, and a brief civil ceremony followed by a reception. Giovanni Falcone spent most of his professional life trying to overthrow the power of the Sicilian Mafia. After a long and distinguished career, culminating in the Maxi Trial in 1986–1987, on 23 May 1992, he was assassinated by the Corleonesi Mafia in the Capaci bombing, on the motorway near Palermo. In the bombing, Judge Falcone was killed along with his wife, Francesca Morvillo, and three police escort agents. Sunday, May 26th, at 10:30 AM 595 Third Street, NW Washington D.C. Please register if you plan to attend.
