S.H.A.P.E. 55th Anniversary Fundraiser
In June 2024, SHAPE Community Center will celebrate its 55th year anniversary! This equates to over a half century of dedicated service to Houston and surrounding communities. This has been a united journey that we have walked together with humility, commitment, and purpose.
As we celebrate this significant anniversary, we aim to raise $550,000 to ensure S.H.A.P.E.'s continued success and expansion of its vital programs. These funds will support projects like transforming a building into a residential home for unhoused veterans and elderly community members, among other future-focused initiatives.
S.H.A.P.E. Community Center, a cornerstone in Houston's African-American and broader communities, has been a force for justice, equality, and community building since its inception in 1969. Created during the Civil Rights Movement, it has become known as the "United Nations of the Hood," uniting diverse groups for community improvement. With a focus on cultural safety and opposition to injustice, S.H.A.P.E. offers programs like the Youth Enrichment Program, Elder Institute of Wisdom, and hosts the Annual Pan-African Cultural Festival and Kwanzaa celebrations.
Acknowledged with over 500 awards for its impactful work, including the Jefferson and MLK Humanitarian Awards, S.H.A.P.E. is dedicated to uplifting the community through education, economic development, and activism. Its co-founder, Deloyd T. Parker, Jr., embodies the center's philosophy, influenced by the principles of Kwanzaa and his international experiences, ensuring S.H.A.P.E.'s legacy as a beacon of hope and transformation.
