Hurricane Melissa, which made landfall in Jamaica on October 28, 2025, as a catastrophic Category 5 storm, had a severe impact on schools across Jamaica.

UNICEF estimates that at least 700,000 children are at risk in Jamaica from hurricane Melissa. Students traumatized by hurricane Melissa may experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and difficulty with academic and behavioral issues. Trauma reactions vary widely, and a child's response depends on factors like the severity of exposure, the duration of the event, social support, and pre-existing mental health conditions. Supporting students includes providing a sense of safety and predictability, establishing routines, offering professional counseling help, and ensuring caregivers also receive support.

The funds raised through this campaign will be used by the 1976 Foundation to pay for the following for Excelsior High School students and their guardians who were traumatized by Hurricane Melissa:

Professional counseling services provided by Family Life Ministries, founded and managed by Excelsior graduate, Dr. Barry Davidson.
Other immediate needs.
