Just a few weeks ago, a mother walked through our doors, her two young children in tow. She was exhausted, overwhelmed, and clearly at the end of her rope. After losing her job unexpectedly, she had struggled to make ends meet. She told us how she had skipped meals so that her children could eat, how she had kept the lights off to save money, and how she had hidden her tears from her kids, not wanting them to see how dire things had become.

When she found us, she was at her breaking point. But at Friends with Food, she found more than just groceries—she found hope. We provided her with food, but also with warmth, understanding, and the reassurance that she wasn’t alone in her struggles. Her children left with full bellies and smiles on their faces, excited about the healthy snacks they’d chosen themselves. The mother left with renewed strength, knowing that she could face another day.

This is why we do what we do. But the reality is, we can’t do it alone. Families like hers are counting on us, and we’re counting on the kindness of people like you.
