Shakespeare in the Woods' Story

Shakespeare in the Woods is returning in 2024 for its 4th theatrical season, and 5th year of bold & unconventional reimagining of the Bard! Summer 2024 will see "Macbeth" & "Twelfth Night, or What You Will" in repertory, for an unforgettable season on our grassy stage. We invite you to support SitW's continued dedication to creating professional, radical, and innovative Shakespeare in Southern VT, by making a donation today to our First Phase Goal of $5,000. This initial amount is the 1st third of the total $15,000 that we aim to raise from direct individual donations, and will cover all the following productions costs:

  • Set materials
  • Costumes and props
  • Lighting equipment rental
  • Performance insurance
  • Performance space rental

ABOUT US:

Shakespeare in the Woods (SitW) is a radical outdoor Southern VT theatre company founded in 2019 by producing artistic director, Katharine Maness (they/she). SitW has thus far produced nine of Shakespeare's works over its 3 summer seasons of theatre and solo feature film adaptation.

Each production seeks to deliver a professional caliber celebration of classical text through an unconventional, modern, and socially aware lens, all while embracing Vermont’s natural offerings. The intention behind every production is to meet the natural landscape with respect, and to mindfully work in collaboration with nature versus imposing upon it.

The core of Shakespeare in the Woods’ mission is: To provide exceptional quality theatre that celebrates the text through exploration of relevant social issues and themes; To make bold and innovative art that is accessible to all audiences regardless of socioeconomic or geographic standing; To engage younger generations of Vermonters through educational outreach that demonstrates the potential for growing the performing arts community right at home in Southern VT.
