Mission Statement

What is it like to be a child , teen or young adult with no voice. To be in a place where they feel that they can't talk to their parents, peers or anyone because they are struggling with mental health issues and are afraid to see a therapist or even a doctor. In 2017, One of my patients 14 years old struggled so much to try and get help while she was in school, and at home that she tried to take her life. Admitted to my hospital the doctors put her on ten different medications , which made her worse. After being medicated for several weeks, she jumped out into the road to get hit by a car. Even that with an assigned therapist in the traditional model, it wasn't enough, because this system of care is flawed. This is not the only story, for me working at my hospital it was hundreds and hundreds of children and teens admitted for suicide and self harming... DAILY. And since COVID these numbers are obscene. This is why I invented TheraVR™.

We see the advantages of emerging computer based therapy both to the patient and therapist for the future, and believe we can use the advantages of the medium, such as VR therapies, to improve outcomes in treatment. For example, children and adults who respond better to personalized avatars and who can engage in managed therapeutic “play”, thus, cost effectively enhancing long-term patient outcomes. Further, we expect such effective therapies to revolutionize mental health. Using tele health is cost effective because it can been used anywhere, without long trips to a clinicians office. This is the same for TheraVR™. Saving the time and cost for therapists, but also saving the time and cost for clients getting therapy, but in a much better way which is immersive, clinically effective and reducing the loneliness of feeling disconnected just a talking head on zoom. Children who are marginalized, perhaps not getting the resources and support through their insurance, or maybe are unable to get a therapist through their insurance are the ones who fall through the cracks. Most of the time, parents not take the time to look at therapy, and instead call 911 , and their child admitted. That is not always the solution. On top is this what happens when a child is apprehensive to seeing there clinician based on multicultural, LGTBQ or minority issues which they may refuse treatment? This is where TheraVR™ is the solution.

Thera Inc. is a tool to integrate into tele psych services by allowing clinicians and patients to meet virtually in both virtual reality and video conferencing. As a nation, the insurance payers still have poor protocols on how refer quality therapists and mental health providers to the right clinicians who specialize in this field. Stigma, lack of education and exploded jargon through the web is not only harmful , it is teaching young people, the wrong information and combined with social media, leading to a nation of serious mental illness. Things need to change, and TheraVR™ for children is a clinician driven, quality and evidence based standard of care, which reduces the use of apps, and distractions and focuses on direct psychotherapy.

Therapists who are starting private practice suffer because their presence on the net is regulated to a handful of basic sites, that verify credentials but are flat and have low optimization. Therapists suffer in traditional practice and lack marketing skills. Thera Inc. bridges the gap between the introduction of tech health and traditional counseling. Hospitals and outpatient systems are the same. Clinicians struggle with the same issues, and using the same programs but not getting the results. This is because they are not using the mediums which children, youth and young adults resonate with when it comes to asking for help. TheraVR™ is a solution for outpatient hospitals, emergency departments, and home based tele health clinicians for remote patient monitoring. Using virtual reality as the medium every client and therapist will conduct their therapy sessions in-world. Thera Inc. will help market mental health professionals and create a more universal presence on the web to allow the public to view, access and connect with quality mental health care professionals as well create a professional hub linking professionals within mental health and as well as the health and wellness community using virtual reality programs to support effective mental health interventions as treatment.
