⭐ Welcome to Jewish Survivors United! ⭐
Sara Rosenberg, Chaim Levin and Asher Lovy share over 30 years of experience in the Jewish survivor advocacy space and have learned a thing or two about providing safe, healthy and relevant support to survivors. They have spent the last several months learning about trauma-informed care, being trained and getting credentialed, talking to survivors about what they want in an organization built for them, planning, learning some more, speaking to experts, and gathering together a group of professionals who sees the vision, and implementing the plan. (And then learning and reworking and planning some more – there's a lot to learn, you guys!)
THE VISION:
An organization that
· Builds trust with survivors who engage us, so that they have a safe space to tell their stories, connect with each other and get relevant resources and services to continue (or even start!) their healing journeys. We won't just throw some referrals at a survivor and wish them well.
· Provides trauma-informed peer support that is survivor-centered and empowers survivors to create a life and healing journey that fits their needs, wants and hopes.
· Provides support that is inclusive of all Jewish survivors, no matter their religious observance, sexual orientation or gender indentity and to ensure that every survivor feels like an integral part of our community - not a problem to be solved.
· Operates with the understanding that trauma results in a disconnection, and to not only work to provide survivors with resources, but to also build a vibrant community that helps survivors reconnect with themselves and to find people that truly hear, believe and support them, so they can begin the process of safely expanding their support systems in healthy ways.
* That believes in continuous training for staff and volunteers to be able to provide skillful, compassionate, trauma-informed care to our members, that also prioritizes our staff/volunteer mental health.
· From the first interaction with our organization, the survivor is listened to, validated, believed, and made to feel like it is an honor to support them, because it is!
OUR SERVICES
· Caring, validating resources and services coordination so you can get the mental health care you need.
* A 24/7 peer support chat on Telegram! With more than 50 active participants on a daily basis, our chat support group is busy, supportive, friendly and informative. (Kind of like a family groups chat, but healthier and you'll find yourself actually wanting to participate!)
· Peer-led support groups run by trained, credentialed, experienced, compassionate professionals. (Virtual, and eventually, in-person) - We currently have 3 peer support groups on Zoom every week, serving more than 30 survivors.
· 2:1 peer support teams to give you individual attention and help you create goals and stay accountable to get you to the life you want to live and/or to support you through a difficult moment.
· Dynamic educational programs and workshops to learn about trauma, healing modalities, managing relationships, mental health and sex ed topics relevant to survivors. So far this year we have ongoing trauma-informed financial literacy class specifically geared to the needs of SA and DV survivors, regular "Healing Through Art" zoom classes, and life skills workshops!
· Programming to facilitate community building and connectedness, so you feel less alone. (On our wish list – a drop in center!) Together, our community participated in last year's NYC Pride March, and the AFSP Out of the Darkness Walk. We have plans to do the same this year, as well as regularly partner up with other organizations to volunteer for them as as group! (Our events coordinator is pretty cool!)
· Limited crisis management services to ensure survivors that are experiencing current or ongoing abuse to help get you to safety so that you have the support you need to plan your next steps.
...and yes, for those of you asking - MERCH!
