OUR MISSION

We are a non-profit organization EMPOWERING villages around the world to drive CHANGE and end the cycle of poverty through EDUCATION.

Education plays a big role in the development of a community and BUILDING a library is just the first step towards creating a space dedicated to learning.

By providing tools to measure academic improvement, & continue encouraging education by providing resources and online mentoring serviced in our libraries, which allow us to CONNECT children to brighter futures.

We call this HOPE through books.

Belize is the only English-speaking country in Central America, and by virtue of its geographical location and historical background, is a part of both Central America and the Caribbean. The San Antonio Rio Honda R.C. School is located in Belize's Orange Walk District which borders both Mexico and Guatemala with approximately 49,500 people. Many of Orange Walk’s inhabitants are people of Maya Mestizo descent who fled Mexico during the devastating Yucatan Caste Wars of the 1840s. As the Maya fled the Yucatan, they moved to land already inhabited by the local Icaiché Mayas who descended from original Maya habitation dating back from before the time of Christ.

San Antonio Rio Honda R.C. School is ran by Mr. Osorio, a local teacher in Orange Walk who runs the school with her love & passion for teaching students! We had the chance to speak with her, to understand the current situation her students are facing.

"School has been cancelled and these children do not even have paper and pencil at home, let alone a computer that they can learn on remotely. Because of this, kids have fallen far behind and school and will have great difficulty catching up. This will likely lead to more kids dropping out of school. These kids also live in households that consist of one or more persons living together, sleeping at least four nights a week and sharing at least one daily meal."

Although early childhood education is being recognized more and more as one of the primary building blocks for performing well in life, The shortfall in the proportion of 3,000 children 5 to 13 years who were not enrolled in school making up of 24.1 percent in Orange Walk. Only 27 percent of children aged two to four years were enrolled in school in 2010 in Orange Walk District.
Additionally, there are children who ‘skip’ grades, hence moving on to high school before attaining the age of twelve years.

Below is an example of some of the results we have seen from our programs that have received supplies from previous fundraisers. This is from one of the schools we work with in Kenya. The number of students dropping out each year has decreased significantly.

In another one of our programs in Uganda, we have seen a significant increase in students attending school when they have access to stable wifi & working computers. This technology also allows students to be a part of our mentor program and receive additional help outside of regular school hours. It is also important to note that having good wifi and working computers allows students to safely attend school during our current pandemic.
